With the Warhol exhibition the Palazzo Reale brings to Milan works by Andy Warhol from the Peter Brant collection. Works from all Warhol’s major periods are on display; from his earlyDeath and Disaster series, his celebrity portraits of Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe, to a 1986 self-portrait.

Long-time Warhol collector Peter Brant is an American industrialist who made his fortune in the paper business. His first piece was a drawing of a Campbell’s soup can, which he bought in 1967 at the age of 20. One year later Brant was introduced for the first time to Warhol, and even though the two seemed an unlikely duo, they became friends for life.

Nowadays Brant’s Warhol collection consists of around 200 pieces and is considered to be one of the most extensive held in private hands, including major works Thirty Are Better Than One and The Last Supper. Prior to 2013 the collection had never been shown in public.
