Marilyn Monroe Taschen Ltd Edition Book

Marilyn Monroe gave a young photographer his big break just months before her death, and this is his story

“You’re already famous, now you’re going to make me famous,”photographer Lawrence Schiller said to Marilyn Monroe as they discussed the photos he was about to shoot of her. “Don’t be so cocky,” Marilyn replied, “photographers can be easily replaced.”

The year was 1962, and Schiller, 25, was on assignment for Paris Match magazine. He already knew Marilyn — they had met on the set of Let’s Make Love — but nothing could have prepared him for the day she appeared nude during a swimming pool scene for the motion picture Something’s Got to Give. Read More

Marilyn & Me exhibition premiers London

Lawrence Schiller’s Marilyn Monroe UK Solo Premier Exhibition!

Last night, after a blisteringly hot day, the Walton Fine Arts Gallery in Kensington hosted the opening of the Marilyn & Me exhibition of images with Lawrence Schiller, and TASCHEN were there to present the book as well.

Invited guests sipped champagne and enjoyed the canapés kindly provided by The Collection, a local restaurant in Kensington, while viewing the images and discussing the time Lawrence spent working with the star. He delighted the guests both individually and as one large group with his anecdotes and posed for pictures with pretty much everyone.

Guests included Matthew Butson, Vice President of Getty Images, Lady Frances von Hofmannsthal, daughter of Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon, artist Richard Hudson, documentary Director Dick Fontaine, Literary Agent Ed Victor, and the UK Editor of Vanity Fair. Getty Images were also on hand to capture the night.

Simon Curtis, Director of My Week With Marilyn, spent quite a long time talking to Larry about their respective times working with the real Marilyn in Larry’s case,  and Michelle Williams impersonating Marilyn in Simon’s case.

Bambi Amy Winehouse 2012

After the defacing of the original Bambi Amy Winehouse Street piece in Camden Road London, Bambi has given us a fresh 2012 version.  She said that art is executed in the street for all to see for free.  It is very demeaning to destroy art,  and such a beautiful tribute which depicts a beautiful portrayal of the legend!

                                        Bambi

Bambi is a British street artist that has presented numerous works throughout the city of London. Keeping her identity anonymous, she portrays current culture through her unique style, and has received wide recognition for her public murals of such figures as Prince William and Kate Middleton, and a full portrait of Amy Winehouse that is now protected by plastic. Inspired by a cross of artists including Bansky, Bambi addresses controversial subject matter that is accessible to a range of viewers. Bambi describes her work as, “I let my work speak for itself. But dreams can inspire me and I am particularly interested in people who spread love and joy…” Bambi studied at St. Martin’s Art College and she continues to live and work in London.

Portrayed by some already as ‘the female Banksy!’

The up-n-coming artist known as Bambi, has set off to a great start in the commercial Urban art market.  Producing Hand-cut, hand-sprayed, hand-papered original one offs as editioned works, as apposed to editioned ‘prints’, such as those made by artists normally.

In addition to editioned original works, Bambi produces one-off originals on mediums such as metal & canvas.
