The royal spent thousands on an original piece by British artist Van Donna just days before going public with his romance with the actress
Prince Harry had his heart set on a telling piece of artwork titled Everybody Needs Somebody to Love last October—and he purchased it just days before his relationship withSuits star Meghan Markle went public. Coincidence? We think not. The redheaded royal purchased the piece in the VIP section of Walton Fine Arts gallery in Kensington, London, and though the gallery would not comment on the details of Harry’s visit, a local collector told the magazine that he had said he was looking for something for “an important person.”
The piece itself, which was sold for $5,000 at a Christie’s exhibition in 2016, is a diptych, featuring two sides of a canvas forming a single piece of artwork. The left canvas depicts a boy and a girl walking hand in hand, while the right canvas features the words “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love” in blue. Van Donna, who prefers to remain anonymous and goes by a pseudonym mash-up of her two personal heroes, Van Gogh and Madonna, is known for her colorful, eclectic aesthetic. Past pieces include a gold foil heart with the words “Heart of Gold” written across it in both English and Arabic, as well as a collection of four colorful camo-print bags with the Chanel logo emblazoned on the front. The value of her work has gone up considerably in recent years, and will likely continue to increase with Harry’s royal stamp of approval.
